Tutorial: Customising a Block
Note: This tutorial assumes that you have fabric imported into Quiltography, you may find this tutorial on adding fabric very helpful;
There are 2 places in which you can customise a block in Quiltography. The first place is from the main menu, the second is by selecting the “+” button (situated inside the wheel of blocks to the right) while designing a quilt. This tutorial focuses on the first option.
From the main menu, select the “New Block” option. You will be presented with a list of over 180 Template blocks to customise. Browse designs by swiping up and down.
Selecting your your desired block will present you with a detailed template block that can be customised.
There is a “Selection Lock” button, the one that looks like a linked chain. It is toggled on / off by tapping. When toggled on the link is highlighted green. This means that matching pieces (pieces of the same color or fabric) within the block will all be selected at the same time.
With the selection lock highlighted green; tap ANY piece in the block, you will see that ALL pieces with the same color will also get selected, tap any of these highlighted pieces again to deselect ALL matching pieces.
Tap the selection lock to turn it off. Tapping any piece this time selects ONLY that individual piece, tapping again will deselect that individual piece. The selection lock is extremely useful for blocks with large number of pieces as it allows you to quickly select matching pieces and change out fabric in multiple pieces at once.
Tapping the search box in the top right will present you with a line of all your fabric. Use this box to help filter your fabric based on tags that you used. The search feature is extremely useful for searching for fabric in a specific color group. In this example we have filtered all fabric with a high proportion of red elements.
If you have a piece in the block selected, tapping on a fabric image here will fill that highlighted piece with the desired fabric. Alternatively, if you tap the empty space around the the fabric images, it will dismiss the search results but the filter will still be active and the fabric images in the wheel to the left will reflect JUST the search results. Clear the text bar to reset the search results.
There are 3 buttons in the wheel to the right, from top to bottom, these are; Add Fabric, Shuffle Fabric, and Fabric Information.
The “add fabric” option allows you to quickly import additional fabric without exiting the block customiser, details on how to do this are HERE
The “shuffle fabric” option will spin the wheel to a random fabric, if you have any block pieces selected, these will automatically be changed to reflect the randomly selected piece.
The “fabric information” option displays detailed information on the fabric in the CENTER of the wheel and allows you to edit and save the details without leaving the block customiser.
Select different pieces so that they flash, select the desired fabric until the block looks good.
There are 2 buttons directly under the selection lock button in the top left. These are “Deselect All” and “Reset Block”
The “deselect all” button deactivates all highlighted pieces. TIP: Tapping the empty space around a block will also deselect all pieces.
The “reset block” will remove all fabric and reset the block to how it was when you started customising the block. NOTE: if you are editing a block that you have already created and saved, the reset block option resets the pieces to the fabric that was in place when the block was loaded, it will NOT remove the fabric to display a completely “fresh block”.
When you are finished, you can select the “Share” icon towards the bottom left to show your friends the awesome block you have just designed with your custom fabric on facebook, twitter and more.
Tapping the back button on the top left will present you with an option to either discard or save the block. NOTE: Discarding the block will delete any changes you have made and this option can NOT be undone. Tapping “Discard” or “Save” will take you back to the previous screen. To dismiss the save / discard box, tap anywhere else on the screen.
To view your blocks, go to the main menu and select “View All Blocks”
